Ten companies in Suzhou were listed on Hurun Research Institute's 2023 Global Unicorn List, which was released on April 18.
This number of unicorns – companies or startups valued at more than $1 billion – in Suzhou was the sixth highest among cities in China and the highest in Jiangsu province.
One of these unicorn companies is Abogen, a biotech firm located in the Suzhou Industrial Park which focuses on the development of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) drugs.

Another company that made the list is Dreame, a robotics firm located in Suzhou's Wujiang district. Established in 2017, the company has obtained 1,130 patents in high-speed motors, fluid mechanics, and robot control. Its products are exported to more than 120 countries and regions.

As of March, Suzhou had 22,327 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises, with 13,473 of them classified as effective high-tech enterprises and 299 as municipal unicorn companies.
