Located in the central part of the Yangtze River Delta - and in the southeastern part of East China’s Jiangsu province - the city of Suzhou borders Shanghai city to the east, East China's Zhejiang province to the south, Taihu Lake to the west and the Yangtze River to the north. 

It enjoys extremely efficient and convenient transportation networks – with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passing through from north to south and the Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway, the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway and the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway traversing from east to west. Nearby, there are five airports near Suzhou. These are Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, Sunan Shuofang International Airport in Wuxi city and Lukou International Airport in Nanjing city in Jiangsu province, as well as Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou city, capital of Zhejiang province. 

Suzhou Port has jurisdiction over Zhangjiagang port, Changshu port and Taicang port. Being one of the nation’s most important ports, it is a first-level port and a comprehensive port ranked at the top in terms of cargo throughput in the world.
