The 2020 Suzhou Multinational Companies Innovation & Cooperation Forum was held on Sept 24 in Suzhou city – located in East China’s Jiangsu province – with a slew of headline corporate big names, top businesspeople and international diplomats participating.
More than 300 representatives from foreign consuls general in Shanghai, Fortune 500 companies, world-renowned multinationals, leading business associations and international financial institutions were present at the event.
About 17,000 foreign-funded enterprises are now estimated to be located in Suzhou and 156 Fortune 500 enterprises have already invested in more than 400 projects in the city.
From January to August in 2020 alone, Suzhou welcomed the launch of 701 foreign-funded projects and the inflow of newly registered foreign capital was $12.49 billion – up 9.9 percent and 51.7 percent, respectively, year-on-year. Meanwhile, the total foreign direct investment in the city reached $8.72 billion – surging 127.3 percent and hitting records in the total volume and the growth rate since the launch of reform and opening-up.
The 2.0 version of the Infographic Guide to Investment in Suzhou was officially released during the event. It has developed into an all-round intelligent platform, designed to comprehensively serve Suzhou’s investment promotions activities.
During the forum, prizes for the 2019 Innovation Contribution Award, the Outstanding Contribution Award for Research and Development Innovation and for key foreign investment projects were presented to internationally funded companies – recognizing their great business performances during the COVID-19 epidemic.
