Shopping festival shines during extended holiday

Suzhou's "2023 Autumn Shopping Festival" continues to thrive during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.

According to official statistics, during the eight-day "golden week", 70 key monitored retail enterprises in the city are expected to achieve retail revenues of 1.67 billion yuan ($229.1 million). On average, they have achieved a daily retail revenue of 209 million yuan, a year-on-year growth of 13.7 percent.

In the county-level city of Taicang, Wanda Plaza witnessed an average daily footfall of 70,000 visitors, with a year-on-year sales increase of 1.6 percent. Meanwhile, the Sam's Club in Wuzhong district achieved more than 38 million yuan in revenue, marking a year-on-year growth of over 120 percent.

Suzhou's unique dining establishments, such as Song He Lou and De Yue Lou, have enjoyed packed houses, resulting in revenue of nearly 100 million yuan and a year-on-year growth of over 70 percent. Hotpot chain restaurant Haidilao also flourished during this period, with its Suzhou branches achieving revenues of over 50 million yuan, up 15 percent year-on-year.
