Suzhou's economy on the rise

The Suzhou municipal government held a press conference on Sept 11 to provide an overview of policies, which were referred to as a "comprehensive strategy" aimed at boosting the sustained recovery and improvement of the city's economy.

The strategy comprises 30 distinct measures, to stimulate and promote consumption, expand investment, foster the stable and healthy development of the real estate and construction sectors, stabilize the foundation of foreign trade and investment, significantly enhance technological innovation, spur industrial development, continuously improve the well-being of citizens, and optimize service provisions.

Throughout the year, Suzhou has adopted a combination of measures to stabilize its economy and promote growth.

In the first half of this year, the regional gross domestic product reached 1.15 trillion yuan ($157.6 billion), representing a year-on-year growth of 4.7 percent. Suzhou's total GDP has consistently ranked sixth among cities nationwide.

From January to August this year, 43 major provincial projects and 468 key municipal projects in Suzhou were progressing ahead of schedule.
