Suzhou business delegation to Europe achieves fruitful results

The trade-economic delegation from Suzhou, Jiangsu province to Europe finished its trip on Dec 18 with intended investment totaling $5.95 billion.

The delegation was made up of more than 200 people, half of whom were from the investment departments of Suzhou's districts and counties and the others executives of trading enterprises.

Led by the Suzhou bureau of commerce, the delegation conducted exchanges with 325 enterprises and international financial institutions. The delegation also hosted and participated in 29 investment promotion conferences. Agreements for a total of 37 projects were signed on site.

In addition, foreign trade companies included in the delegation visited 362 customers and received 3 billion yuan ($430.93 million) in orders, mainly for exports.

Sun Jianjiang, director of the Suzhou bureau of commerce, discussed business cooperation with Luc Themelin, chief executive officer of Mersen Group on Dec 11 local time in Paris.

Themelin was excited to receive its first Chinese guests in three years. He added that the company will speed up its plan to invest in new factories in Suzhou. As a governing unit of the French Aerospace Association, the company will also work to promote the business environment of Suzhou to more enterprises in the industry.

Gu Li, general manager of Jiangsu Changjiang Paper Co, visited many buyers in Italy and the Netherlands to promote their products, including notebooks, during the trip. Gu said that exports account for 70 percent of the company's business, most of which are to Europe.
