Suzhou posts 4.4% increase in GDP in Q1

The gross domestic product of Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, totaled 513.67 billion yuan ($77.88 billion) in the first three months of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent, the local statistical bureau announced on April 25.

In the first quarter of this year, the total industrial output value above designated size in Suzhou increased by 9.6 percent year-on-year to exceed 1 trillion yuan.

The output value of key industries such as the chemical industry, automobile manufacturing, electronic information, and electrical machinery increased by 22.8 percent, 14.2 percent, 13.9 percent and 11.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Suzhou saw continued efforts to upgrade industries. The output value of high-tech manufacturing in the first quarter of 2022 reached 350.88 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.8 percent, which was 3.2 percentage points higher than that of industries above designated size. The output value of high-tech manufacturing accounted for 34.9 percent of the total output value of industries above designated size.

During this period, the output of products related to industrial robots, smartphones, and integrated circuits increased by 20.4 percent, 72.6 percent and 14.8 percent year-on-year, respectively.

From January to March 2022, foreign trade in Suzhou increased by 14.1 percent year-on-year to 637.78 billion yuan, the city's total exports increased by 14.2 percent year-on-year to 374.51 billion yuan, and imports were up 14.1 percent year-on-year, reaching 263.27 billion yuan.
