Suzhou foreign trade sees growth in first 2 months

Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province saw its foreign trade grow 16.9 percent year-on-year to 413.49 billion yuan ($64.94 billion) in the first two months of 2022, according to the local customs office.

Exports rose 14 percent year-on-year to 240.77 billion yuan, while imports rose 20.3 percent to 172.72 billion yuan.

The value of imports and exports of private enterprises in the city reached 118.88 billion yuan, an increase of 25.8 percent annually and accounting for 28.8 percent of the city's total foreign trade.

Asian countries make up the bulk of Suzhou’s main foreign trade partners in terms of both imports and exports, as 45.1 percent of the city's exports went to Asian countries, while 76.4 percent of the city's imported goods came from Asian countries. Goods imported from the European Union and the United States were valued at 12.61 billion yuan and 9.18 billion yuan, respectively.

In the first two months of 2022, the value of the city's imports and exports of mechanical and electrical products rose 18.1 percent year-on-year to 307.73 billion yuan. The export value of notebook computers, communication equipment such as mobile phones, and textile raw materials and products reached 26.01 billion yuan, 27.96 billion yuan, and 20.58 billion yuan, respectively.
