Suzhou's commercial data in 2020

Total retail sales of consumer goods in the prefecture-level city of Suzhou – located in East China's Jiangsu province – came in at 770.19 billion yuan ($119.44 billion) in 2020, down 1.4 percent year-on-year. Total exports and imports increased 1 percent to $322.35 billion, of which exports totaled $186.87 billion, down 2.7 percent, while imports reached $135.48 billion, up 6.6 percent. 

When denominated in renminbi, total foreign trade increased 1.5 percent to 2.23 trillion yuan. Of this, exports totaled 1.29 trillion yuan, down 2.2 percent, while imports reached 938 billion yuan, up 7.1 percent. Foreign direct investment in the city increased 20 percent year-on-year to $5.54 billion. The city welcomed the launch of 1,256 of foreign-funded projects and the inflow of newly registered foreign capital of $18.91 billion – up 26.4 percent and 66.8 percent, respectively, year-on-year. In addition, it invested in 233 new projects in foreign countries, with contracted foreign investment of $1.60 billion, ranking it first in Jiangsu province.
